Guidelines on Handling Violations

 

 

1.Any act committed by a test-taker that undermine fair examination and evaluation will be considered a violation.

 

2.Invigilators have the authority to catch violations and kick out anyone who has committed a violation in order to ensure fair examination and evaluation.

 

3. Those who violate the prescribed rules will have their exam scores nullified and be restricted from taking the TOPIK exam in accordance with Article 13 of the Basic Operating Regulations for the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK).

 

 

Article 13 (Handling of Violations and Test-Taking Restrictions)

 

1.Violations resulting in nullification of the exam score:

 

A.Not complying with the invigilator’s request to check the identity and personal effects;

 

B.Continuing to write or fill out the answer beyond the time limit for the section in question;

 

C.Looking or attempting to look at another text-taker’s answer sheet;

 

D.Handing in an electronic or communication device that causes noise or starts operating in the middle of the exam;

 

 

2.. Violations resulting in nullification of the exam score and restrictions from taking the exam for two years:

 

A.Not complying with legitimate instructions from the invigilator that are necessary to administer the exam in a fair manner;

 

B.Engaging in an act that causes a serious disruption in the administration or progress of the exam;

 

C.Having or using an electronic or communication device during the exam;

 

D.Looking or attempting to look at an object wrongfully brought into the exam room;

 

E.Exchanging notes or answers with another test-taker or exchanging signals in the form of hand gestures, sounds, etc.;

 

F.Coercing others to share correct answers;

 

G.Engaging in any acts related to leakage and/or distribution of exam questions;

 

H.Taking the exam by forging or altering one’s ID card or various other documents;

 

I.Forging or altering a TOPIK score report for illegitimate uses;

 

 

3. Violations resulting in nullification of the exam score and restrictions from taking the exam for four years:

 

A.Hiring someone to take the exam on one’s behalf or taking the exam on behalf of someone.

 

 

4.Violations may be uncovered on site on the day of the exam or at a later time following an investigation.

 

 

5. Even in the case of test-takers who have already received their exam scores may have their exam scores nullified and cancelled for the exam in which they 

committed a violation and all the subsequent exams they have taken if a violation is discovered in an investigation process. The restrictions and follow-up measures applied will be in accordance with Paragraph 1.

 

 

6.Depending on the seriousness of the violation, a list of those who committed violations may be sent to their affiliated institution (school) or an investigation may be requested to the affiliated institution (school).
